Oakland Job Market - Is There Anything to Look Forward To?
For those who are looking for jobs in Oakland, the job market seems to have something to offer. The region is struggling to fill the need for positions in many areas. There is no doubt, though, there is a new for economic improvement that leads to job creation. Not all signs going forward look positive, but the Mayor seems to think there are good things happening.
According to Mayor Jean Quan, the city is rebounding from the current economic and political firestorm it has been under. She made her first State of the City address this week. In it, she highlights the numerous good things happening in the city including the emergence of arts, culinary and cultural avenues. Some positive data out there suggests that the city is seeing improvement in its economic conditions, too.
In her State of the City speech, she states, "This year we've had more than our share of bumps, but one thing should be clear: Oakland is on the rise." She then adds, " We learn from our mistakes and we move forward."
So, where is the city at right now? It cut 105 jobs in the last year. It also slashed $28 million from its budget. The jobs factor is not good though many argue it was necessary in order to give the city more control over its funds. The city has also seen the violence and costs to the city rise due to the Occupy Oakland rallies that have taken place.
